Pulling Together to Move Forward

In addition to providing financial assistance to residents and businesses, we are investing in all aspects of civic life. That includes over $25 million to upgrade and improve the East Palestine City Park, over $3 million to the city Fire Department, and a $445,000 scholarship endowment fund created by our CEO for East Palestine high schoolers.

Providing Assistance to Residents

We set up an assistance center in East Palestine in the days after the derailment to help residents impacted by the incident, including providing reimbursement for expenses related to lodging, travel, food, and clothes.

Air, Water, and Soil Sampling

In ongoing efforts to help keep residents safe, Norfolk Southern is working with local, state, and federal environmental agencies and an independent team of scientists to test and monitor air, water, and soil quality at locations in and around East Palestine.
